Pastor
Terry Laughlins Study Material
(Latest
Update October 2007)
From Pastor Terrys Heart: If
the church of Jesus Christ is going to maintain an
aggressive witness for the Lord to generations to come
then she must have men and women whom have Christ
apportioned gifts to oversee her. (Ephesians
4:7-13) The Holy Spirit illuminated
child of God has a heart that is hungry to grow in his
knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining
to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.
True church leadership sets the example in study of
Gods Word so as to do [their] best to present
[themselves] to God as one approved, a workman who does
not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the Word
of truth. (2 Timothy 2:15)
We live in a day where Biblically-anemic
preaching and well-written books have replaced the meat
of Gods word with marshmallow phrases that are
pleasing to inching ears, thus leaving religious people
being guided by their flesh, the worlds view and
even the lies of the devil. Just as in the days of
Martin Luther we need a reformation in the church.
The Body of Christ needs Biblical shepherds called and
anointed by the Holy Spirit (Acts 20:28) who can proclaim Gods truths leading
disciples of Christ to the holiness of God and enabling
them to live a life of true repentance. There are
plenty of gifted communicators in the modern church with
short sermons that are shallow focusing on human
relationships, successful living, emotional issues and
other practical worldly themes. Thus, church
attendees find themselves under the exhortation found in
Hebrews 5:12-14, In fact, though by this time you
ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the
elementary truths of God's word all over again. You need
milk, not solid food! Anyone who lives on
milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the
teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for
the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves
to distinguish good from evil.
Christians hungry to be used of God
dig down deep into the meat of Gods Word so they
can become mature. It is the responsibility of
pastors to give an accountability of their study habits
so as to set the Biblical example. (1 Timothy
4:12-14)
From Pastor Terrys Heart:
It is my
Biblical conviction that no one should spend time reading
Christians' writings until they have first been taught
the joy of Holy Spirits leading as they prayerfully
read the Word of God. Ephesians 6:17 says the sword
of the Spirit,
is the Word of God. Jesus
promised,
the Counselor, the Holy Spirit,
whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you all
things and remind you of everything I have said to
you. Our Lord said,
Man does not
live on bread alone, but on every Word that comes from
the mouth of God. (Matthew
4:4)
Pastor Terrys Selective Bible Reading: It is my Biblical conviction that
I should spend time prayerfully reading at least five
chapters a day, inviting the Holy Spirit to take the
written Word of God and place it deep within my heart and
mind. Giving Him permission to bring it to my mind
and awaken it into my heart as I live out my life with
Christ and fulfill His mandates for me. Hebrews 4:12-13) The
Bible I read is the New International Bible and as I
study the Word of God I look at three other Bibles, the
Complete Word Study Bible, (King James), New American
Standard Bible and the English Standard Version.
The guiding principle that has proved trustworthy for me
is: if whatever comes into my mind or is presented
to me by anyone has not come from prayerful meditation
upon the written Word, then it comes from our enemies,
the flesh, the world, or the devil. As much as
possible I try to get the whole council of Gods
Word before making key decisions, especially when
preaching and teaching the Holy Scriptures.
Bible Study Aides: Over the years I
have noticed that there are four cancers in the
recognized man made church that hinders the work of the
true church, those who have indwelling Holy Spirit of
Christ. These cancers now and will continue to
plague the work of God until Christ returns. They
are; legalism, traditionalism, denominationalism and
faddism. To protect me from my own wicked heart and
from these life destroying influences I have thrown off
worldly pursuits and invested in Bible study material
done by men whom have proven faithful in devoting
themselves to the public reading, teaching and preaching
of the Word of God. Bible study teachers who have
watched their life and doctrine closely as well as not
neglecting their gift, proven diligent, faithful in
hardships and severe trials. These study aides are:
