Holy Scriptures We have the word of the prophets made more certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it. Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophets own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of men, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. (2 Peter 1: 19 - 21) Matthew Henry wrote: Scripture is a Divine revelation which we may depend upon as infallibly true. The same Spirit that breathed life also breathed revelation among us. The apostles and the prophets did not speak for themselves, but what they received from the Lord, they delivered unto us. Noah Webster defines the Holy Scriptures as, The supernatural influence of the Holy Spirit of God on the human mind, by which prophets and apostles and sacred writers were qualified to set forth Divine truth without any mixture of error. All sixty-six books of the Bible as originally given are God-breathed. In the Greek this literally means a product of Divine operation. It is popular to doubt the authenticity of the Bible. Doubt is nothing new. It is found on the lips of Satan in the earliest chapters of the Bible. His deception to Eve is the same to all, Did God really say ? (Genesis 3:1) He is very successful in causing people to question, Is the Bible truly Gods Word? Even religious authors and motivational speakers seldom refer to Scripture. They overlook the apostle Pauls exhortation to Timothy to Preach the Word. (2 Timothy 4: 1 - 2) People who question the Word of God have mental reservation about its authority. They never become interested in reading, studying, or surrendering to what the Bible says. People who accept the Bible to be Divinely inspired come to know Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. They come to understand Gods will for them. They discover that the Bible has guidance in how to live a life of righteousness. They find direction for every part of human life, ranging from finances to running a Biblical Church. It has been said that The Bible is one of the most ancient of books and yet the most modern. The human soul can never out grow it. Bread is the most ancient of foods and yet the most modern. As long as men are hungry they will want bread for the body; and as long as men yearn for God and for things eternal they will want the Bible. Jesus said, Man shall not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. (Matthew 4:4) Humble
obedience to the Bible will keep you from sin and lead
you in a life of righteousness or sin will keep you from
the Word of God. Feed yourself Gods Word and
come to know Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. |
